I
hope you enjoy my little book. Like skiing, First
Tracks is a labor of love.
Johnny Boyd
First
Tracks is a great read to prepare your kids for a first time ski
vacation, and it keeps the memories alive after they have left the slopes.
Moreover, it will help you as a parent to talk the family into skiing over
more mundane pursuits such as lying on the beach. If you get to go skiing
and the kids love it, and First Tracks helps at all, then
my mission has been accomplished.
First
Tracks was conceived over 10 years ago when my niece was learning
to ski. Her enthusiasm for the sport was infectious and I wanted to share
that with the world. Now she is a teenager and rolls her eyes at most things,
but in a few more years maybe she’ll understand the legacy she left
when she was five and all things were new to her.
Reinforcing
a love for skiing in your kids is just one of the goals I set out to achieve
when I wrote First Tracks. Penning a fun read for kids and parents was another.
I have always believed that a kid’s book should interest the kids and
keep the parent who has to read it happy as well. Maybe even garnering a chuckle
from each. Of course, by the time a parent has read the same book 30 times,
there is nothing that can be done to make it exciting.
If
you love skiing and you have a family, you want your family to love it, too.
First, is the altruistic reason that you want to share the sport you love
with the people you love. Second, is the selfish reason that you want to make
it easier for you to partake in the sport. If the kids love skiing as much
as you do, it will be easier to head for the slopes when the need for speed
arises.
